Bluetooth

With Bluetooth 5.3 technology, both the JBL Tune 720BT and the JBL Tune 770NC offer seamless connectivity, allowing you to wirelessly stream high-quality JBL Pure Bass Sound from your smartphone. Additionally, the JBL Headphones app enhances Bluetooth performance by offering Smart Audio & Video features, enabling you to optimize sound quality for different media types. I find the app to be particularly useful, and I think JBL did a great job incorporating these features to enhance the overall listening experience. It’s worth noting that the JBL Tune 770NC also introduces Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio, promising even more efficient and reliable wireless connectivity for an enhanced listening experience.

Battery Life

As someone who has experienced the reliability of JBL’s battery performance in their Bluetooth headphones, I can attest to their proficiency. The JBL Tune 720BT offers an impressive 76 hours of playback on a single charge, with just 5 minutes of recharge providing an extra 3 hours of listening. Similarly, the JBL Tune 770NC provides up to 70 hours of battery life, also featuring fast charging for an additional 3 hours of playback in just 5 minutes. Considering the average battery life of Bluetooth headphones is around 30 hours, these models deliver two or more times better longevity, ensuring you won’t miss a beat even during the longest listening sessions.

Soundstage

I conducted a thorough test by listening to Rüfüs Du Sol’s “Innerbloom” on both the JBL Tune 720BT and the JBL Tune 770NC, with the same EQ settings applied. While both headphones impressed me with their audio quality, I noticed that the 770NC had a slight edge in the mids and highs. The vocals and instrumentals were more pronounced and detailed, providing a more immersive listening experience. However, it’s worth mentioning that both headphones delivered exceptional sound quality overall, showcasing JBL’s commitment to audio excellence.

Low End

Both the JBL Tune 720BT and the JBL Tune 770NC deliver impressive low-end performance, thanks to JBL’s Pure Bass sound technology. With deep, punchy lows, the bass adds a rich foundation to your music-listening experience on both headphones. What’s notable is that neither headphone’s bass overpowers or overwhelms the other frequencies; instead, it strikes a perfect balance, enhancing the overall sound without drowning out details in the mids or highs. Whether you’re immersing yourself in bass-heavy tracks or enjoying more subdued genres, both the Tune 720BT and the Tune 770NC provide a satisfying bass response that elevates your listening enjoyment. As someone who truly appreciates a good bass, I can confidently say that I thoroughly enjoy the bass on both these headphones.

Mids

In terms of midrange performance, I noticed a slight advantage with the JBL Tune 770NC compared to the Tune 720BT. The vocals and instrumentals on the 770NC seemed to be more pronounced and detailed, adding an extra layer of depth to the music. While both headphones deliver excellent midrange clarity, the 770NC edges slightly ahead, providing a more immersive listening experience overall.

Highs

In terms of highs, there’s a nuanced difference between the JBL Tune 720BT and the JBL Tune 770NC. While the Tune 770NC offers slightly better clarity and detail in the higher frequencies, the disparity isn’t monumental. Both headphones perform admirably in this regard, delivering crisp and well-defined highs that enhance the overall listening experience. Additionally, the active noise cancellation (ANC) feature on the 770NC helps in isolating details, allowing you to fully appreciate the nuances in the highs. Ultimately, whether you opt for the 720BT or the 770NC, you can expect excellent performance in the highs department, making either choice a solid pick for your audio needs.

Summary

Comparing the JBL Tune 720BT and the JBL Tune 770NC has been an enjoyable experience. Both headphones offer impressive sound quality and a host of features that cater to different preferences. However, if I had to choose, the ANC functionality on the 770NC truly stands out, making a noticeable difference in noise reduction. If you’re someone who values a quieter listening environment, the 770NC model is the clear choice. Overall, whether it’s the rich bass, detailed mids, or crisp highs, both headphones deliver exceptional audio performance. It’s always fascinating to dive into comparisons like this, exploring the nuances between different models and discovering what works best for each individual’s listening preferences.
