Audio-Technica Announces the ATH-AWX7000, Their New Wooden Closed-Back Flagship

Today, Audio-Technica unveiled the ATH-AWX7000 as a new model in their closed-back lineup. Internally and externally pushing familiar and new technology, this latest luxury rendition aims to offer a new flagship for their wooden closed-back series.

Unparalleled Driver Design

Specifically crafted for the ATH-AWX7000 is the Hybrid Matrix Diaphragm, providing extra room for its polymer film and metal dome to intake high-input stress. The HMD technology’s strength ensures the diaphragm keeps its shape for a more enduring and consistent sound. Returning from the open-back ATH-ADX7000 is its HXDT molding process, crafting a uniformly vibrating diaphragm for transient response and dynamics.

Deep, Dynamic Bass

These aforementioned improvements to the diaphragm contribute to a clear source replication of which air pressure does not impede. This accurately captures the expansive potential of a closed-back headphone, helping bass feel infinitely dense and weighty.

Japanese Craftsmanship

As a flagship of their wooden series, the AWX7000s use Kiso cypress wood for its housings. Due to its striking appearance and significant durability, Kiso cypress has a longstanding history constructing Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. Complimenting this traditional material is the Echizen lacquering applied to these housings; the technique dating back over 1,500 years. Over time, the Kiso cypress wood will begin to darken, giving each ATH-AWX7000 its own unique identity.

Extending beyond its shells, the entire headphone carries details seeped in Japanese culture. The AWX7000’s earpads and headband utilize Japanese deerskin for added comfort, and its magnesium frame is finished with the samurai’s lucky color, the deep navy kachi-iro.
